Image: More Than Just Looks?

Do Kids And Teens Think Image Is Everything?
Remember when all that mattered was what was on the inside? When all you were supposed to care about was your personality and heart? Well, times have changed, because that's not what matters in the minds of teens and kids these days.
What do kids REALLY car about these days? Image. They care about how they look. How their hair looks, how their clothes look how their face looks. Whether they're pretty, or trendy or skinny. That's a big part of what kids and teens REALLY care about nowadays. They don't care about what's on the inside, but what's on the outside.
Why? Maybe because of peer pressure or bullying. One mean comment about somebody's appearance can really affect them, and have an impact on them. Or maybe people are affected by all the advertisements on TV and in magazines. The ads usually focus on how to be the trendiest person in school, or have the nicest hair in town, making kids and teens feel like they HAVE to get these products and improve themselves, because like said in the ads: "Every cool kid needs one....". Or maybe kids and teens are just insecure. So insecure, that image is VERY, VERY important to them. To them, they have to look cool, have to look good, HAVE to look trendy to fit in, to be in the "in" crowd. But why are kids and teens letting this take over their social life?
Sure, everyone wants to look good, even I like wearing nice clothes and looking nice. But some kids take "looking good" too far. Looking good is like breathing to them. They HAVE to look cool, or their social life will "die". Personality and what's on the inside doesn't matter to them- all that matters is image.
Image is probably one thing a lot of people find SO important. It's like they're a book, and their image is their cover. They think that the only way people will read them, is if they have a nice cover. Well, like a book, the cover isn't everything. I've read some book where the cover may not have been interesting, but the book was great. Like people. Their looks may not be the best, but who they are is probably great! But, people have forgotten that, and all that matters to them is the cover.
In conclusion, a big part of kids and teens' social lives is their appearance- their image. Kids have to look good, have to look trendy, have to be cool. But what if all that was forgotten, and kids and teens started to care more about what was on the inside. Would things be different? Would people be more confident with themselves? Well, until that begins to happen, we'll just have to guess.
Thank you for reading!
Sincerely yours, Bianca

Nice Hub. Peer pressure can be a big influence and not always for the good. Great Job.
